A Day in the Life of Sayulita

My Day in Sayulita:

Last week was the 5th annual Women’s Health and Happiness retreat in Sayulita, Mexico. This is truly one of my favorite weeks of the year. I get to connect with and learn from wise and introspective women who love to teach from their experiences. And I get to teach and take Dailey Method classes every day (now that’s my everyday life too but not under a Palapa!) Oh – and lie on the beach, eat Mexican food, play with my friends. What’s not to like?

Generally I write a blog post about what I take away from this rejuvenating yearly retreat, but this year I decided to let you see for yourself…

As you can see this a happy place. I believe we need to take time and space to recharge to be truly healthy and thrive. It doesn’t have to be a retreat – it can be a walk around the block or an epsom salt bath. Or… you can sign up for next year’s retreat in Sayulita with me!

Dailey Does The East Coast

Sometimes I have so much gratitude for what I get to do for a living, and that’s definitely how I’ve felt the last two weeks.

I just got back from a whirlwind trip on the East Coast. Starting in Loudoun, Virginia and Washington DC I taught classes (one to the wives of the Redskins players), took classes from studio owners and taught workshops to an engaging and passionate teaching staff. 4 Dailey Method studios opened on East Coast within the last year and I appreciated the opportunity to get to see all of the owners during my stay and witness the incredible community and support they’ve created out there.


Then, I was off to NY. I love this city – it inspires me, excites me and helps me find greater appreciation for my life when I return. Appreciate that I don’t normally have to run 100 miles an hour like everyone does in NY. My Master Teacher trainer Katina Griffin met me there and together we Dared to Bare. It was an amazing event put on by the Movemeant Foundation that brought so many brave people together for a cause that is unbelievably important and a huge part of why I do what I do. To inspire acceptance of our inside/out beauty. Regardless of where we are in our life.



I took 10 different classes at different hot studios during the week I was there. I was instructed and inspired by some excellent teachers. I didn’t love every class I took but even when I don’t have the best experience in a class I can still learn something from it. This is my favorite way to work on product development and support my passion for always being a student. Then the finale was 2 pop up classes on the rooftop of the (super cool!) Refinery Hotel with the help of Emily Montgomery (TDM’s amazing Marketing and Social Media Director), Tami Conway (Chicago Studio owner) and the company Wellthily. We had a great turnout of students. Some that are students with The Dailey Method and happened to be visiting the city, some who now live in NY and were excited to have us present, and some new people that have never tried us before.



Today is National Gratitude Day. 

Over the years, I have learned how important gratitude truly is. Even when I’m going through the hardest of times, whenever I am able to take a moment and think about one or two things I am grateful for, I am amazed at the positive and uplifting shift that occurs in my thoughts and energy. I try daily to make it a practice to think of all the things I am grateful for.

Encouraging gratitude in my students is also one of my favorite ways to end the meditation portion of the classes I teach. I have found that making a list of 5 things I am grateful for is a helpful starting point when I sit down to journal. It generally isn’t that hard to do. Once I’m in that grateful space the feeling just keeps expanding. When we have a grateful heart we appreciate what is in our lives so much more.

I made a list of 5 things I am grateful for today (it changes daily!)

  1. My community of teachers and owners – I just completed the workshop intensives that occur every year in Chicago. (Santa Barbara and SF are yet to come!) I am immensely grateful for the creativity, passion and the love that I rediscover in that group of people each time we come together in this forum. Thank you!
  2. My health – From the moment I was diagnosed with breast cancer and onto the day that I broke my ankle, I have learned not to take health for granted and to appreciate all that my body does for me every day.
  3. Where I live – My home, my town, my community are all places that make me feel happy and safe.
  4. My family – My kids, Mom, sisters, brothers-in-law and the best nieces and nephews ever – They love unconditionally and are some of my favorite people to spend time with.
  5. All of the amazing people in the world that work hard and selflessly to create foundations to support and build up those in need.


Next weekend in New York I’m teaching a class at #DareToBareNYC to help support one of those amazing foundations, The Movemeant Foundation. This foundation empowers women and girls by providing body-positive, self-confidence building tools, resources, financial grants and experiences where fitness and physical movement is the gateway to her feeling powerful in the skin she is in.  ‘Dare to Bare’ is more than an event. It’s a national movement that asks women and girls an important question: what if we dare to overcome the insecurities we have about our bodies and instead chose to bare our vulnerabilities in an effort to conquer them? We will reveal the most powerful version of ourselves next weekend. And we want you to join us.

I am truly grateful that I have the opportunity to bring my passion and talents to help support this amazing foundation. Join me in NYC if you can and do your part to make this world just a little bit better. Together, we can #DareToBare!

Recap: Align & Shine Challenge Facebook Pre Party with Jill

Last Tuesday night, I held a Pre Party on Facebook for any questions you may have had about our upcoming Align and Shine Challenge (challenge starts Monday, May 2nd). If you didn’t get to join us, here is a peek at a few of our conversations.

Question: Jill I love my wine and like most things it’s better in moderation. Can you tell me what your typical day of eating looks like?

Answer: Green smoothie for breakfast that was shared on Facebook. I love the raw spicy veggie soup from Urban Remedy for lunch. Dinner favorite is creating bowls with my kids. A protein and lots of veggies and letting them make their own. I also love eggs for any meal. Oh… and a glass of wine in the evening.


Question: Jill, why did you decide to do 4 classes for this challenge as opposed to 3 per week?

Answer: 4 classes per week is when I feel my best. It’s my magic number.


Question: Hi Jill! I’m currently in my second 30 Clean and wondering, for someone like me who doesn’t live near a studio, will you be putting out more online classes during the challenge?

Answer: We are filming 5 more tomorrow, they usually take 6 weeks to upload. It will be a great motivator for you to continue after the Align and Shine challenge!


Question: Dear Jill, any suggestions for providing meals for your family while focusing on The 30 clean plan for yourself? I find it hard to do meal prep for myself then figure out what the rest of my family will eat each day…seems overwhelming and time consuming on an already tight schedule!

Answer: When I’ve done The 30 clean I’ve made the same meal for my kids as I make for myself. You can always add a little cheese or some rice to their meal. For example- for breakfast I would have eggs over last night’s vegetables and make eggs and toast for the kids.


Question: Dear Jill, I need some tips/encouragement that I’ll be able to do this challenge even though I’m in a boot for an ankle ligament tear. I can take barre classes but haven’t been able to do interval or other cardio for a while. It’s hard at times to get enough exercise and movement. Any suggestions? I heard you were injured once, too.

Answer: I totally understand! I was in a boot for 6 weeks but was able to take a Dailey barre class the entire time and really felt like I was able to stay in shape. Don’t worry about the cardio. Your body needs a rest from this right now. You’re expending so much energy just walking around with that heavy boot. Ask your Studio owner to get a stool or chair you can sit on in class for the standing and single leg series. And lots of single leg lifts, back work with the band and core work. This time will pass quickly.


Question: Jill, do you suggest to do the dailey “align” challenge after class together with other students that are joining the challenge?

Answer: Absolutely! This Challenge should be fun and interactive! Don’t forget to post pics and videos 🙂
