May Word of the Month : Heart

“Every single day, do something that makes your heart sing.”

-Marcia Wieder

There were many voices that sang last weekend at The Dailey Method’s 9th annual Owners’ Retreat. Besides being a place where amazing connections take place, the event serves as a forum where some very special friends in my life – the TDM owners – can learn, grow, and make meaningful contributions to TDM. The heart of the Dailey Method is what makes it the amazingly special, supportive and beautiful community that continues to soar.

So, the Owners’ Retreat perfectly embodies May’s Word of the Month – Heart. Our hearts are our innermost part and we could not survive without it. Not only ARE these individuals the Hearts of their home communities, but they GIVE their hearts to their practice, their studios and to the people who walk in their doors every day. I know for myself that the love I have for my studios and to The Dailey Method is so personally meaningful. I am always in awe at the passion and dedication that the other owners show in making their studios the best (and the most fun!) they can be. While still maintaining The Dailey Method’s core principles of Align, Engage, Move.

The owners came from far reaches of the US, and beyond (Paris, Mexico and Canada)! I am reminded each year that there is an incredible level of diversity that makes up the Dailey Method. And by giving their all to create a welcoming and productive space to find alignment they are also able to create a space that is open to everyone.

There were so many, but here are some of the my personal highlights of the weekend:

  • The one-on-one introductions. I am fortunate to know them all but when they come together there can be electric synergy when they get to connect personally. The weekend began with that connection.
  • The small group breakouts that allowed us to collaborate together to learn, grow, and expand communally. And to brainstorm together to continually be able to offer you, our community, an ever-evolving product.
  • The amazing expo (1st picture above) where we had some incredible talent. Local and far reaching companies attended, people who can collaborate with our businesses in ways that help support us all as business owners and allow our communities simpler processes.
  • The dinners we had together, where we could unwind, laugh and celebrate together.
  • The hike on the last day through the headlands of Marin. Gorgeous perfect day.

The celebration of my new Dailey Cycle studio in Fairfax. It wasn’t even open to the public yet and I got to have the best of the best across the world to come and teach there and show us their talents.

I want to SHOUT from the bottom of my heart a huge THANK YOU to each and every Dailey Method owner for believing in the product and showing up each day to share that with their community. And for the amazing corporate staff (you know who you are) that discussed, created and worked tireless hours to make it the most informative and fun retreat ever.

The Season of Evolution: I Never Want to Quit Learning or Teaching!

The Season of Evolution

I absolutely love Fall!

This season is without a doubt the craziest time of the year for me, but professionally it’s consistently my most inspirational. It’s a time when we hold our continuing education platforms at The Dailey Method in three major Dailey Method markets in the U.S for the purpose of evolving and honing our already AMAZING class. I also get to spend quality time with people I love who share the same passion as I do and who uphold my favorite Dailey Method Core Value: Always be a student!

Every Fall the Master Teacher Trainer Team consisting of Kerry Corcoran, Emily Blanchard Zega, Katina Griffin and I, plan, tweak and execute our workshop intensive series in Chicago, Southern California and the Bay Area. Throughout the year leading up to our intensives, we discuss areas of growth, gain clarity on questions we receive from our students and teachers and assess all the ways we can create a continuing education curriculum relevant to where TDM is RIGHT now. We adopt the belief and embody the idea that we can always grow – not only as a business but as individuals too.

The birth of that growth always begins in the class setting with a ton of willingness to look at our student’s successes, their overall needs or struggles as well as where there may be room for evolution in the workout so that TDM can continue to deliver the best, most balanced results for our community.

We travel together, teach together and as a result so many gifts are born from the experience. Teaching is, and probably always will be, my favorite thing to do. Ever.

Two things that excited us at TDM in 2016 and that we felt we must delve deeper into and teach to others are:

#1. Balancing out our front body work with the back body work in our classes. When people generally think about their “core” they think about abdominal muscles, but our core is so much more than that. It’s the corset of muscle and fibers that surround and support our entire torso. “Core” spans from our pelvis to our neck, front and back three dimensionally. It’s fascinating how much deeper we can take our practice when we understand and FEEL this wrap-around effect. I’m so excited about some of the new exercises we’re introducing into our classes that help address this concept and help each TDM student become stronger and achieve even more balance in their bodies.

#2. Range of motion of our spine. True articulation and being able to find the greatest length possible while we balance the strength and mobility component on each and every vertebrae is paramount to longevity in movement.
We’ve begun incorporating even more exercises into the TDM workout to assist you with creating optimal spinal health within your own body and I have to say, the feedback we are receiving is that students feel absolutely challenged and are loving it!

The spine is our central life-force and is our messaging center for every bit of movement we will ever take in our lives. It is inside (quite literally!) our “center” – our body!

Evolution, change and true transformation occurs when we pay attention and nurture ourselves from the inside FIRST, both in our TDM workout platform and in our journey throughout our lives.

Join me and let’s transform together!

Love,
Jill

8 Articles Every New Dailey Method Student Should Read

What is The Dailey Method?Although we have an incredibly supportive community being a new student to The Dailey Method can definitely be intimidating! We use different language, have unique movements, move at a fairly quick pace and you might find yourself shaking like crazy without knowing why!

With other things in life, we tend to read up on them prior to jumping straight in; and while I always encourage students to ask questions, here is a list of articles I think every brand new TDM student should take a look at before or right after taking their first class – an FAQ of sorts.

It would have been priceless to know all this information when I first began The Dailey Method. P.S. These are a great read for experienced students as well!!!

I hope this helps you feel a little more confident and comfortable in any class!

The 8th Annual Dailey Method Owner’s Retreat Photo Round-Up

The Dailey Method Owner's Retreat

Last week we finished the 8th Annual Owner’s Retreat at our headquarters in Fairfax, California. Owner’s gathered from around the world to connect, enjoy classes and be empowered by the ongoing education and creativity that defines what we do and how we grow.

The Dailey Method Owner's Retreat

I am continually inspired by being a part of this community. I love witnessing and experiencing firsthand the passion and commitment that our owner’s exhibit. Through authenticity and a strong quality for value, they ensure that the Method maintains its core foundation. I also love seeing The Dailey Method grow and welcome new voices, new ideas and new smiles! I am truly grateful for everyone that is a part of our TDM family.

The Dailey Method Owner's Retreat

One thing that Doug and I feel passionate about is giving space for everyone to have a voice. We believe that is where real power and growth begins. I am amazed by the wealth of talent and leadership skills our owners possess in so many areas. Our retreat offers a forum where we can listen to one another, provide support and allow the creativity to flow. The collaboration between everyone is what makes our Studios and our Method the best barre class on the planet.

The Dailey Method Owner's Retreat

Our owner’s are passionate about helping others and one another. Their devotion to the Method, their teachers and their students is inspiring. And they always want to be students themselves which is one of the reasons I believe they are continually fired up about The Dailey Method community as a whole. When we recognize and honor what each individual has to offer, it creates an inviting atmosphere and keeps us all moving forward in a positive direction.

The Dailey Method Owner's Retreat

When we come together it never ceases to inspire and amaze me how much we can accomplish. I am constantly learning and seeing things in a new light and as a family we encourage and spur each other on to new heights and new horizons.

The Dailey Method Owner's Retreat

Of course, we also allow the time to have fun, drink a margarita or two and go on a hike…

The Dailey Method Owner's Retreat

For some Chicagoans it was the first hike they’d ever been on! I don’t think it will be their last!!!

Thanks to all our owner’s, teachers, staff and students for making TDM the vibrant, fun community that we are!
